Electrical Safety In Your Workplace – What you need to know…

Portable Appliance Testing

PAT Testing is the electrical safety check of your workplace electrical appliances. It covers everything connected to the wiring inside the walls of your office or factory.

From the computers in your office, kettle in the kitchen, to the machinery and tools in your factory. If it’s connected to the wiring by plug, industrial connector, or hard wired like a hand drier or heater, we’ll check it to ensure it safe for continued use.

Electrical Installation Condition Report

Also known as a Fixed Wiring Inspection or Periodic Inspection.

This is where our experienced engineers report on the condition of the wiring within the walls, your plugs and switches, the lighting and safety devices present within your electrical installation.

The more hazardous your workplace, the more often this inspection is carried out. We’ll visit temporary events or construction sites more regularly than offices for example.

Emergency Lighting

Like smoke alarms, emergency lighting tends to be fitted and then forgotten about until it’s needed.  But, it’s essential for the safe evacuation of your visitors and staff in event of a power failure or other emergency.

It has to be installed, maintained and serviced in the correct way.

If the layout of your building has changed, or the building has changed use, then an Emergency Lighting Risk Assessment and Inspection, will help confirm is the design is suitable and compliant with BS 5266.

We also help maintain this essential life safety equipment with routine emergency lighting maintenance.

Thermal Imaging of Electrical Services

Downtime in your business can be expensive, especially when a fault occurs in a production line, or the power fails on a critical system.

Our thermal imaging surveys allow us to monitor workplace machinery for faulty components, connections, and terminations; ensuring parts are ordered and replaced during planned maintenance.

Often requested by insurance companies, hospitals, banks, data-centres and other business-critical workplaces, Thermal Imaging of Electrical Systems has become a core part of our business.

Validation Reports and Condition Surveys

If you are purchasing a commercial property, preparing to refurbish or completing a commercial fit-out, our electrical engineers are on hand to cast and experienced eye over your property.

Our Validation Reports and Condition Surveys are tailored to meet your requirements, but can cover:

Power Quality & Energy Use Surveys

  • Planning to expand your business premises?
  • Want to fit a few more desks into your workplace?
  • Investing in new machinery for your factory?

Our power quality and energy consumption surveys give you up to date, accurate information about your electrical installation and it’s current demand.

From simple offices and warehouses to feasibility studies for hospital wings, our experienced team can give you the right information to make educated choices.

with esi: Electrical Safety Inspections

“ESI have provided a first class service to the Kent Sussex Surrey Air Ambulance.

As a specialist aviation charity, safety is always at the forefront of our agenda. I am delighted to say that not only has ESI met our threshold of competence and efficiency, they have also conducted their work in a friendly and unobtrusive way.”

David Philpott

Chief Executive, Kent Air Ambulance Trust

“An engineer from ESI recently came to Nuclear Industry Association to test all our electrical equipment.

The testing was done swiftly and professionally and caused little to no disruptions to our normal working day.

I can highly recommend them.”

Kate Amos

Office Manager, Nuclear Industry Association

“We would like to thank-you for the efficient and professional manner in which the appliance testing was undertaken.

Some three hundred items were tested in two days with absolute minimum of disruption to either our offices or factory.

We will most certainly retain your services on an ongoing basis.”

Jim Hodges

Director, Leay Limited

“Chaucer Insurance is the UK Motor Division of a publicly quoted Company with its main operating centre in Whitstable, Kent.

To comply with Health & Safety legislation, ESI carries out our portable appliance testing on a yearly basis. We have always found ESI to be completely reliable and flexible, undertaking most of the testing out of hours. A thorough report is presented once the testing has been completed with any failed equipment highlighted as a potential risk.  The Whitstable office is purpose built and occupies 40,000 square feet.

We would highly recommend ESI for any electrical safety inspections you may require and have found Jamie Morgan and his team to be extremely professional engineers with a high regard for company property.”

Geraldine Riley

Facilities & Purchasing Manager, Chaucer Insurance Plc.

“Our business insurance providers were questioning whether they would be able to provide cover on parts of our premises at the next renewal date because the electrics were said to be in need of significant upgrading. After a frustrating and long-winded experience with one electrical contractor, we approached Jamie Morgan at ESI via a recommendation.

Immediately, the response was thorough, punctual and conscientious. Jamie gave an immediate air of confidence such that we quickly felt that if we awarded his company the contract, then the work would be completed on time and exactly as per the scheduled works. Suffice to say, the work WAS carried out on time and with a great deal of flexibility on ESI’s part.

I can’t speak highly enough of the professionalism shown by Jamie and his team, I would have no hesitation in recommending ESI’s services to any of my friends, family or business associates, not just with the physical work but also the accompanying paperwork/certification.

Chris Porcas

Managing Director, Forestrall Timber Merchants

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience during your inspection here, which I know was not an easy task and for presenting such a well presented report for us.”

Tony Pantlin

Estates Manager, Burrswood Hospital
