Goblin Cordless Vacuum Recall: Check Your Model for Fire Risk

Households across the UK are being urged to check their cordless vacuum cleaners after a Goblin handheld vacuum cleaner sold exclusively at Asda was recalled due to a potential fire risk.

The Goblin GHV102W-20 model has been identified as a potential hazard because its battery may overheat, particularly if the vacuum is left on charge and unattended. This overheating could pose a serious fire safety risk, prompting an urgent product recall.

Not all Goblin cordless vacuums are impacted by the recall. Asda and the product safety authorities have confirmed that only the Goblin GHV102W-20 model is affected.

To check if your vacuum is included in the recall, look for these site codes printed on the body of the vacuum: 5A.08.20.115, 15A.10.21.181, or 15A.09.22.168.

If your Goblin cordless vacuum has one of these codes, it is included in the recall. If it does not, your vacuum is not affected and can continue to be used safely.

The recall was issued after it was discovered that some units may have batteries that overheat, which can fail safety standards and create a fire hazard. According to a government spokesperson, the issue relates specifically to the battery charging process:

“It has been identified that in some units of the Goblin handheld vacuum, the battery may overheat. This could pose a fire safety risk if left on charge and unattended.”

In addition, authorities have confirmed that the product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016, meaning it falls short of UK safety standards.

If you own a Goblin GHV102W-20 cordless vacuum cleaner with one of the affected site codes, stop using it immediately.

Do not charge the vacuum or leave it plugged in, as this increases the fire risk.

Asda has issued clear guidance for customers: stop using the vacuum cleaner immediately, check the site code on the body of the vacuum to confirm if your model is affected, and return the vacuum to any Asda store for a full refund or exchange – no receipt is required.

Asda has apologised for the inconvenience caused to customers and has provided a dedicated support line for more information: 0800 952 0101.

Electrical product recalls, while inconvenient, are a critical part of home safety. Many households leave appliances like cordless vacuums charging overnight or unattended. If the battery malfunctions, the risk of fire, smoke damage, and injury increases significantly.

This recall serves as an important reminder to register new appliances with the manufacturer where possible, to be notified of safety recalls.

Never leave electrical devices charging unattended for long periods, and regularly check for product recalls on government or retailer websites to ensure your household appliances are safe.

If you own a Goblin GHV102W-20 cordless vacuum, check your site code today. If it matches any of the affected codes, return it to Asda for a full refund or exchange immediately.

Your safety – and that of your home – is worth far more than the convenience of a vacuum cleaner.

Acting quickly on product recalls is the best way to prevent fire risks and protect your household.
